films watched in 2026
This blog entry will be updated with every film I watch in 2026, along with my rating and some brief notes. Seemed easier than flooding the blog with 50+ entries about individual movies. Please remember that I'm objectively right about everything.
Little Shop of Horrors (1986): I've seen this one before, but never all the way through and not in many years. I've always loved the premise of this movie, but I was too squeamish as a kid to watch anything past Feed Me. I love Seymour's earnestness, the setting, the music, the puppet. I remember being obsessed with Seymour's little bedroom under the shop, and drawing pictures of it in my notebook.
I never understood how the puppeteering is so smooth and lifelike, but it turns out they shot it in slow motion and then sped it up. Rick Moranis' Seymour feels alive and tangible to me, which plays well with Ellen Greene's more campy performance. I'm planning to work through more of Greene's filmography this year. Some INCREDIBLE songs. A few duds. I docked it half a point for leaving out It's Just the Gas, becuase I feel like it's an important character moment AND a banger.
Rating: 7.5/10
Mermaids (1990): This film really surprised me. I chose it because it's a Winona Ryder movie I've never heard of. Charlotte was strange and moody, but not in the approachable way. In the way teenage girls really are-- the way I was at that age (sort of). The writing and dialog was genuinely hilarious, and I don't typically find movies funny. Some of the character motivations didn't make much sense to me, and Joe's character was dull. It seemed like he barely spoke at all. Regardless, the it-factor here is off the charts. It made me cry. It's something special.
